Pura Vida – Segunda Semana en Costa Rica

Hola y Pura Vida!

Each paragraph has Spanish, English and pictures  :) My English is getting worse, but I think my Spanish is getting better, haha!

This week was incredible! I know that I always say that, but its true. There were many adventures! My whole body hurts. I currently have three bruises from horses and canyoneering, and many mosquito bites from a huge tree. My professors and tica family always tell me to “be careful Heather, be careful”, haha!

Arriba y abajo, arriba y abajo muchas colinas. Son las montañas!

This past Monday, two of my friends from school and I went to eat in Santa Elena (20 minute walk), to visit the bookstore for flashcards and to drink coffee. The streets around Monteverde and Santa Elena are so difficult. Up and down, up and down these huge hills I go!! These are mountains!

On Tuesday, I went to Stellas Bakery. My tica sister is the owner. I ate azteca soup (like tortilla), passionfruit cheesecake and drank a cappuchino. It was delicious.

On Wednesday, my friends from school, 2 other persons and I went to the Monteverde Reserve. One girl was from Dallas. Luckily she walked slow also because those guys from Europe walk really fast! We took the bus. When I was getting off the bus, I fell! Because I was talking with the driver. After I fell, I said “con cuidado” (be careful) the passengers laughed :)  We walked around the reserve for 3 hours. I was very tired because we climbed up the mountains and the altitude here is so high! We visited the Continental Divide. When we were finished, we had to walk back to town which was an hour away!! My legs are very strong now!

135 feet! Yeah!

On Friday, two friends from school and I visited a huge tree. In English, the tree is called “Hollow Tree”, but the Ticos call it “the place where crazy tourists go”. The tree is a ficus that strangled the other tree. Now it is hollow and you can climb it. The tree is 40 meters (or 133 feet)!! I was scared but the view was so cool. Two monkeys ran in the trees and one ran towards me! I began to go back down the tree really fast! The monkeys are pretty but crazy too! The monkey put his head in the top of the tree and scared me!

Today was incredible! Last week my friend and I rode horses with my friend Marvin. He invited me to his farm this weekend. Marvin and I are breakfast at the farmers market. I had a chicken and vegetable tamale. Then we rode to his farm which took 2.5 hours in the mountains!! The views were so beautiful!! We called the horses from the mountains and then wrangled the horses. We gave them medicine and visited the river. Then we returned to Monteverde…..after we rode 2.5 hours of course! It was an awesome experience that not many people get to have.

My professor told me its best to give 12 kiss and hugs each day. I need to give 3 more hugs and 10 more kisses today, haha!
